The following proposal has been submitted for consideration at the next meeting between Inspired Property Management & the Parklands Board of Directors (early June 2022). Feedback from this proposal will be published on this website as an update post and in the ‘Proposals’ ‘Feedback’ section.

Name: Natalie Walton & Traci-Ann Shepherd (on behalf of Parklands Estate Residents’ Association)
Title of your proposal : Insect home making day
Does your proposal require a time-sensitive decision?: No
For consideration we advise your proposal supports some or all of the following (please check all that apply):
- Make Parklands Estate a great place to live by promoting and encouraging community spirit
- Have support from residents of Parklands Estate (inc. shareholders)
- Forge strong links with the local community for the benefit of all residents living on the estate
- Ensure the estate is environmentally sustainable, respectful and promotes the natural environment
- Be budget saving or have funding available to support your idea
Please describe your proposal, thinking about the above: Insect homes are increasingly important as habitat for insects is increasingly threatened by human development. Insect homes can be small and hidden or creative and celebrated as positive part of the estate. We would like to make our own with the estate community and to invite the local school to help develop one or two as a competition for the children. We can ask them to design a insect, hedgehog home that we can them make on the estate and we can have an event to celebrate brining families onto the estate to help us care for the estate together – the more we involve local communities the more they will respect and care for the estate as we do.
Do you have evidence of community consultation (e.g. emails, written feedback, names of residents supporting, meeting minutes):?: Yes, We know the estate wants to be more sustainable this is an extension of a consultation idea (Oct 2021 resident consultation meeting).
Do you know the cost of your proposal and how we might raise funds as a collective to cover the costs?: No
If no, please provide details on how the Residents’ Association Committee can support you to gather this information: Insect homes are used from recycled materials and so cost is minimal. This will be costed up if approved.
Any other information you would like to provide:: This would be a great activity for kids on the estate.

I’m talking to a workshop leader to help set up a day of Bug hotel making in August. We can also try to get bird boxes installed the same day !
