The following proposal has been submitted for consideration at the next meeting between Inspired Property Management & the Parklands Board of Directors (early June 2022). Feedback from this proposal will be published on this website as an update post and in the ‘Proposals’ ‘Feedback’ section.

Name: Natalie Walton & Traci-Ann Shepherd (on behalf of Parklands Estate Residents’ Association)
Title of your proposal : Community wild flowers / re-wilding the estate
Does your proposal require a time-sensitive decision?: Yes
If time-sensitive, please indicate any deadlines you may be working towards (e.g. funding, planting, nesting seasons, national & local initiatives): We will need to work to seasonal planting timeframes directed by the GG&G team.
For consideration we advise your proposal supports some or all of the following (please check all that apply):
- Make Parklands Estate a great place to live by promoting and encouraging community spirit
- Have support from residents of Parklands Estate (inc. shareholders)
- Forge strong links with the local community for the benefit of all residents living on the estate
- Ensure the estate is environmentally sustainable, respectful and promotes the natural environment
- Be budget saving or have funding available to support your idea
Please describe your proposal, thinking about the above: Some areas of the estate are hinterlands and either get missed, are overlooked due to being under tree shelter or are at the periphery of the estate and naturally have wild cover. We propose that these areas become designated areas of wild flowers from wild flower mix – eg cornflowers, poppies etc to bluebells, snowdrops and wild garlic. We propose that there are days allocated to community planting days – under instruction of GG&G to plant out these areas together. Eg area near Long Causeway could be wild flowers, the space looking onto the park under tree cover could be a bluebell and snowdrop area, the area near Aberford Road again bluebell woods. An event would include sharing refreshments and celebrating the community effort.
Do you have evidence of community consultation (e.g. emails, written feedback, names of residents supporting, meeting minutes):?: Yes. October 2021 resident consultation meeting, Parklands Facebook group feedback.
Do you know the cost of your proposal and how we might raise funds as a collective to cover the costs?: No
If no, please provide details on how the Residents’ Association Committee can support you to gather this information:: Costs should be provided by the GG&G team.
